WHAT DOES IT MEAN FOR THE NATIONAL ECONOMY AND THE FOOD AND GROCERY MANUFACTURING SECTOR

Join AFGC CEO Tanya Barden and Economist Warren Hogan for a post-Federal Budget Briefing to hear what the top lines are about the state of the economy and also more specifically what is it in for the food, beverage and grocery manufacturing sector.

Tanya will provide an overview on portfolio specific measures announced in the budget while Warren will discuss the economic and fiscal outlook.

Since the last federal Budget in October 2020 the economy has bounced back from the COVID-19 impact. Government has also looked to industry to be a proponent in the economic recovery by announcing the $1.5 billion Modern Manufacturing Strategy and instant asset write off measures late last year.

The government is now set to deliver a Budget that will contain new measures designed to further help stimulate economic growth, skills and jobs.   While we have seen manufacturing at the heart of the last Budget, skills and measures aimed at reducing the unemployment rate look to be next.

The AFGC has continued to advocate to government that the food, beverage and grocery manufacturing is an essential industry and the right policy settings are needed to encourage continued investment. This requires extending the instant asset write off / carry-back measure and looking to expand the Modern Manufacturing Initiative.
