National Plastics Recycling Scheme (NPRS) – Update

It has been 18 months since the AFGC received strong member support for the development of an industry-led product stewardship scheme for soft plastics, and were awarded a federal government grant to develop the scheme arrangements. 

This Dialogue is an opportunity to hear how the landscape for soft plastics recycling has evolved since we commenced work on the scheme and how the AFGC has responded to these changes. We will also outline the next stage of our scheme development in regard to trials and the pre-commercialisation pilot of kerbside collection of soft plastics.

Support for – and participation in – the NPRS by Australian food and grocery manufacturers is vital to the establishment of an effective, efficient, industry-led and operated recycling scheme for soft plastics. Policymakers, industry stakeholders and the community at large are strongly supportive of the development of circular economy capabilities in Australia, and the NPRS is how our industry will demonstrate leadership, ownership and commitment to sustainable outcomes.
