The Food and Beverage Manufacturing inquiry is tasked with looking for opportunities for expanding innovation and value-adding in Australia’s food and beverage industry. The AFGC provided a written submission into the process and attended a public hearing in July. Three main recommendations were highlighted, including the need for a 30% investment tax incentive to drive innovation and investment; support to create a sustainable and nationally harmonised circular economy; and the need for investment support and coordination on the industry’s efforts towards energy transition. The public hearing provided a good opportunity to highlight our challenges and the potential for the sector. Senators also probed the AFGC’s views on research and development, innovation, the food standards regulatory environment and the review of the Food and Grocery Code of Conduct. The AFGC will maintain a watching brief on any outcomes and the final report.
