About us

Who we are

The Australian Food & Grocery Council (AFGC) is the peak industry association for the food, beverage and grocery supply industry.

We were founded in 1995. We are based in Canberra with some team members located throughout Australia.

Our vision is for a thriving and trusted food and grocery industry that Sustains Australia.

Who we support

The food and grocery supply industry provides the products Australians trust and use every day. The food and grocery industry:

  • contributes more than $162.7 billion to the Australian economy
  • employs over 281,269 people
  • accounts for about 32.2% of all manufacturing in Australia.

What we do

AFGC helps food and grocery manufacturers and suppliers take collective action on issues impacting the industry. We advocate for and represent member views to government, trading partners and stakeholders so they recognise the valuable contribution made by our industry.

We help members to:

influence

commercial, economic, regulatory, health and environmental issues

improve practices

by sharing knowledge and setting performance benchmarks

gain insights

to reduce costs, navigate complex industry issues and understand changes to regulations

meet and network

to establish and maintain relationships among industry peers

More about us

As an independent advocate for the industry, the AFGC sources member views via working groups, events and communication. We use a variety of methods to share these views with:

  • government (at all levels)
  • trading partners
  • stakeholders.

We also contribute to:

  • research
  • regulation.
