180 billion reasons to get out and see the regional show near you

7 August 2026

From the Mungindi Show to the Tullamore and Trundle Shows, regional Australia is gearing up to celebrate the farmers, manufacturers and communities behind the food and groceries Australians enjoy every day.

As regional show season gets underway, with a notable 150th birthday for Queensland show, The Ekka this year, visitors will get a front-row seat to one of Australia’s great success stories: turning world-class Australian ingredients into the food, beverages and grocery products found in homes across the country and on shelves around the world.

The $180 billion food and grocery manufacturing sector works hand in hand with farmers to add value to Australian produce, creating jobs, attracting investment and keeping regional economies strong.

“Regional shows are a reminder that farming and manufacturing are partners working side by side to support communities and feed the nation,” said AFGC CEO Colm Maguire. “As the sector’s peak body, we are immensely proud of the work done by our members every day and these regional shows are an easy, family-friendly, fun way of seeing exactly why we’re happy to talk up this sector.”

“Let’s also not forget, this sector is essential. From cereal to cheese, and grains to bread, manufacturing is what gets food from the farm gate to the family table.”

Food and grocery manufacturing is Australia’s largest manufacturing sector and one of regional Australia’s biggest employers. More than a third of the workforce is based outside major cities, and the sector generates $53 billion in exports each year.

We encourage regional communities to support these shows and consumers in other areas to keep backing manufacturing in their daily shops.
