Supporting health and wellbeing has been a core focus for Mars Food & Nutrition Australia for over a decade. Since 2007, the company has removed nearly 2,000 tonnes of sugar and over 500 tonnes of sodium from popular products, including pasta sauces, gravies and recipe bases.
Mars Food & Nutrition Australia has achieved an average 5% sodium reduction across its range of sauces – without compromising on taste. But reformulation is only one piece of the puzzle.

To help Australians make healthier everyday choices, Mars Food & Nutrition Australia also revamped over 80 back-of-pack recipes between 2020 and 2023.
These updates boosted the average vegetable content from 1.1 to 1.8 servings per meal.
At the same time, Health Star Ratings are now featured on 85% of eligible products, helping shoppers navigate options quickly and confidently.
As part of the Government’s Healthy Food Partnership Reformulation program, Mars Food & Nutrition Australia is focused on bringing consumers a variety of flavours to match changing lifestyles.
As part of this commitment, the manufacturer is expanding its portfolio with reduced salt and sugar variants of popular pantry staples like MASTERFOODS™ Tomato Sauce, as well as veg- and legume-rich options like DOLMIO® 7 Veg and BEN’S ORIGINAL™ Protein+.
Mars Food & Nutrition’s purpose – Better food today, a better world tomorrow – is guiding Australians toward healthier meals, one smart swap at a time.

In the 1980s, MASTERFOODS™ produced Australia’s first Spaghetti Bolognese sauce – Alora (now known as DOLMIO®).

The 2,000 tonnes of sugar removed from Mars Food & Nutrition Australia products is the equivalent weight of six Boeing 747 Jets, while the salt removed – 500 tonnes – is heavier than 2 large blue whales.
