AFGC presents industry perspectives on food security to National Food Council

21 July 2026

The AFGC presented industry perspectives at the National Food Council meeting on 24 June, contributing to discussion on the development of the National Food Security Strategy.

We emphasised that Australia’s food security is intrinsically linked to the strength, resilience and commercial sustainability of the food processing and manufacturing sector. A viable industry underpins the domestic capability Australia depends on in both normal and crisis conditions, providing essential manufacturing infrastructure, skilled workers, robust supplier networks, and the agility to respond to evolving challenges.

Our presentation also highlighted the importance of supply chain security, including the risks associated with import concentration of essential inputs. AFGC will continue to engage with government as the National Food Security Strategy is developed.
