Food for thought: A memorable FGA as AFGC’s new CEO

21 May 2025

Just two weeks ago I was humbled to be appointed AFGC’s Chief Executive Officer. I’m still feeling incredibly grateful for all the messages, encouragement and support.

It couldn’t have been a better week. Thank you to everyone who joined us for this year’s flagship conference in a milestone year for the AFGC and our industry as a whole. Connecting face-to-face with so many of our members, partners and stakeholders was the perfect start.

The Board Meeting, CEO Dialogue and Dinner were rich with insights and a clear sense of shared priorities. It grounded me in the purpose of our organisation and the importance of working together.

I left feeling deeply inspired by the recurring themes across the event: purpose, connection, collaboration and innovation. As the AFGC team we understand the responsibility and privilege of advocating on behalf of the sector and delivering on expectations.

In the conference opening, Ant (our Chair) reminded us that collaboration has never been more important as we face more challenges than ever. That sentiment echoed throughout the conference – in conversations, in sessions, and in the commitment we all make going forward.

We also marked some important moments – including our first awards for member contributions towards AFGC work, recognition of our longest serving members, the launch of SmartFacts with GS1 and the return of Sustaining Australia TV.

While we’ll be celebrating our 30-year milestone throughout the year, FGA2025 set the tone.

I’m incredibly proud to be a part of a team that is energised by what we can achieve together as we set our sights on 2030 and the next 30 years.

I especially loved the final moments of the conference when Dr. Peter Fuda challenged us all to “Put our right hand up as high as we could, now reach a little higher!”

(And yes – I’m glad it was the right hand as my left remained in the sling!)
