State of the Industy

Australia’s food and grocery manufacturing sector is trending well, and the latest numbers prove it. Our latest State of the Industry report points out turnover is up 5.3% to $173 billion, employment has grown to nearly 300,000 jobs, and exports are reaching new heights. But there is a challenge hidden amongst the green.

These numbers are a great reminder of the strength and resilience of our industry, especially in regional communities where over a third of these jobs are based.

The AFGC’s State of the Industry report highlights that while we’re leading the way in manufacturing, capital investment has dipped, and cost pressures remain. That’s why now is the perfect time to focus on productivity: smarter regulation, stronger supply chains, and affordable, reliable energy.

As the Albanese Government continues the discussion on productivity and continues to roll out its “Future Made in Australia” vision, our sector is ready to step up. With a bold goal to grow to $250 billion by 2030, we have the momentum and now we need the right support to keep building on it.

Our Chair Bernie Brookes put it well: “This is the right conversation at the right time.” With collaboration, innovation, and targeted investment, we can ensure our sector remains globally competitive and continues to deliver for Australia.

This past month also saw colleagues in sales and marketing, supply chains, and sustainability get together for our Summit series. Great attendance and even better discussions around the room – thanks to all those that made it possible especially sponsors and partners. Our next event is the Future Leaders Forum, and for the up and comers in the industry it is not to be missed.
