FSANZ releases 2024-25 annual report

Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ) released its 2024-25 annual report. FSANZ CEO, Dr Sandra Cuthbert, said the year was defined by significant regulatory and scientific progress driven by collaboration with stakeholders and Food Regulation System partners.
Key highlights include FSANZ:
- finalised 20 applications and 7 proposals
- approved the first cell-cultured food for sale in Australia and New Zealand
- developed a new standard for future cell-cultured food
- approved new definitions for genetically modified food
- updated maximum residue limits aligning with international standards
- delivered FSANZ’s second Consumer Insights Tracker survey
- collaborated with the Bi-national Food Safety Network to manage 10 significant food safety issues
- began a major review of the Health Star Rating system and nutrition information panel
- completed consultation to strengthen egg safety standards
- achieved levels of consumer trust in FSANZ above 80%
- coordinated 87 food recalls
- undertook 27 public consultations, including 24 calls for submissions on standards
- led or participated in 32 international forums and projects
- analysed 2000 food samples for the 28th Australian Total Diet Study
