Great Western Highway closure at Victoria Pass – Update

29 May 2026

Status: The Great Western Highway at Victoria Pass (Mitchells Causeway) remains fully closed due to serious cracking and ground movement. It is not safe for traffic and will not reopen until engineers are confident risks are resolved.

What’s changed: Transport for NSW has shortlisted two engineering consortia (led by Seymour Whyte and Gamuda) to develop solutions in parallel, with the aim of identifying the safest and fastest option to restore the road.

Timing: The closure is expected to extend beyond June. An updated reopening timeline will be provided once a delivery partner is appointed.

Interim access: TfNSW is assessing whether limited or staged access could be possible during repair works, subject to safety and without delaying full reinstatement. No interim access has been confirmed.

The AFGC has already contacted members known to be affected. Any other members experiencing impacts from this closure are encouraged to get in touch and share feedback.
