At our October meeting, guest presenters from the Australian Rail Track Corporation (ARTC) shared valuable insights into their ongoing projects aimed at improving resilience. The ARTC, which manages approximately 8,500 km of rail network across five states, discussed the effects of recent extreme weather, including record floods and fires, which have disrupted operations, reduced network availability, and affected service times.
The ARTC outlined current and upcoming investments, in collaboration with the federal government, to future-proof the network, create redundancies, and prevent bottlenecks. After the presentation, Committee members emphasised the importance of strengthening advocacy efforts to address issues that, once resolved, could lead to greater supply chain efficiencies.
