New EY-AFGC research explores the future of AI-enabled grocery shopping

23 September 2026

What happens when shoppers stop searching and AI starts choosing?

New research from EY and AFGC surveyed 1,000 Australian grocery shoppers to understand how consumers are using AI today and what it could mean for the future of grocery purchasing.

The findings explore consumer attitudes towards AI-assisted shopping, including trust, personalisation, value and the circumstances under which shoppers may be willing to hand over more purchasing decisions to AI.

For manufacturers, brands and retailers, the implications go beyond technology. They go to how products are discovered, compared and ultimately chosen.

Download a copy of the report here.

We’ll be hosting a webinar with EY on 28 October to unpack the findings and discuss what they mean for the food and grocery sector – register to attend here.
