Response to FSANZ Proposal 1010 – Formulated Supplementary Sports Foods Consultation Paper Two – Nutrition and Health Claims

4 September 2023

The Australian Food and Grocery Council (AFGC) welcomes the opportunity to respond to Proposal P1010 Formulated Supplementary Sports Foods Consultation Paper 2 (CP2).

Under Consultation Paper 1 (CP1) – Regulatory Framework released in January 2023, FSANZ sought comment on most aspects of Standard 2.9.4 including definitions within the Australia New Zealand Food Standards Code (the Code), overarching compositional considerations, labelling and the positioning of electrolyte drinks, as well as data on the current sports foods market. The AFGC made a submission to this consultation.

The focus of this second consultation paper is the regulation of nutrition content and health claims for sports foods in Australia and New Zealand and will be considered on the 1st call for submissions.

The AFGC presents this submission in two parts:

  • General comments which outline the AFGC’s position on claims permitted on Formulated Supplementary Sport Foods (FSSF)
  • Specific Comments relating to the questions for stakeholders.
