Standing Committee on Health, Aged Care and Sport Inquiry into diabetes in Australia

The Australian Food and Grocery Council (AFGC) welcomes this opportunity to contribute to the House of Representatives Standing Committee on Health, Aged Care and Sport Inquiry into Diabetes (“the Inquiry”). The Inquiry’s Terms of Reference are broad and the issues regarding diabetes in Australia are complex.

This submission focuses on the areas where the AFGC and its members have expertise. It provides an overview of the Australian food industry’s extensive and effective engagement to date and evidence of the AFGC’s readiness to work with governments and other stakeholders in addressing one of the major risk factors for type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) — overweight and obesity.
