AFGC appoints new CEO

9 May 2025

Good morning,

It is with great pleasure I am writing to announce the appointment of Colm Maguire as the CEO of the Australian Food and Grocery Council. While Colm has been acting in the role for several months, this appointment comes following an extensive search by our partners at Touchstone Recruitment.

At a time of great dynamism for our sector, Colm brings extensive leadership experience across membership-based organisations and a deep knowledge and appreciation of delivering value for members. Since joining the AFGC in July 2024 as Chief Operating Officer and Company Secretary Colm has continued to share insights from his long period of service across the not-for-profit, health, and sport sectors, which includes 10 years as the Chief Executive Officer of Touch Football Australia and more recently seven years at the Pharmacy Guild of Australia as a Group Executive and COO.

It was in these roles he led major transformation programs and cultural improvements, delivering outstanding outcomes for members. Colm has long held an interest and drive in delivering for members and not-for-profit organisations throughout his entire professional career, including as a Director on the Board of the Council of Small Business Organisations of Australia.

In recent months, Colm has helped prepare the organisation for the celebration of our 30th anniversary culminating at Food and Grocery Australia next week in Sydney.

As a board, we’ve seen over the past year as COO and most recently as interim CEO, Colm demonstrate outstanding leadership grounded in empathy, collaboration and decisiveness. He is an experienced and authentic leader who brings a strong commitment to innovation, stakeholder engagement and strategic progress and is the right leader to progress the AFGC into the future.

Our media release announcing this appointment will be shared wider later today but is available here. I trust you will join me in congratulating Colm and wishing him well in the role.

Kind regards,

Anthony Holme

Chair – AFGC Board of Directors
