AFGC member input: IA-CEPA modernisation consultation

12 November 2025

Background

Five years since its commencement, the Indonesia–Australia Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (IA-CEPA) is undergoing a review to ensure it continues to meet business needs and unlock new trade and investment opportunities.

The Australia Indonesia Business Council (AIBC), supported by DFAT through the Southeast Asia FTA Modernisation Grant Program, is leading this consultation in partnership with Asialink Business and FTA expert Justin Brown, former Deputy Secretary (Trade) at DFAT.

AFGC action

The AFGC has been invited to a private consultation session with the AIBC ACT Chair, Judy Anderson and facilitator Justin Brown.

This consultation seeks direct input from industry and business representatives on:

  • Opportunities in the Australia–Indonesia trade and investment relationship.
  • Challenges or barriers in accessing markets or utilising IA-CEPA provisions.
  • Practical suggestions for strengthening the agreement to deliver improved outcomes.
  • Suggestions on emerging and future-focused inclusions to 2040.

Member action

The AFGC welcomes members’ insights to inform responses to the above consultation questions by Friday 21 November 2025.

This feedback will help shape government consideration of IA-CEPA’s future direction.
