AFGC unveils Towards 2030: A food and grocery snapshot

26 February 2026

The AFGC’s landmark 2020 report, Sustaining Australia: Food and Grocery Manufacturing 2030 set an ambitious target of doubling the sector’s turnover by 2030. As we cross the halfway point of the decade, the AFGC’s newest report – Towards 2030: A food and grocery snapshot – assesses the sector’s achievements and challenges during a period of significant global and domestic upheaval.

Despite COVID-19, geopolitical tensions, inflationary pressures, and the transition to new energy and regulatory settings, the sector has continued to supply Australian households and support export markets, demonstrating exceptional resilience.

However, the report also emphasises the need to address structural challenges facing the sector. Rising costs, a growing regulatory burden, and plateauing investment remind us that realising the sector’s full growth potential requires tackling issues relating to Australia’s productivity and competitiveness. Strong policy and investment settings will be essential to secure long-term growth and competitiveness.
