The Australian Packaging Covenant Organisation (APCO) has released its 2030 Strategic Plan, outlining a proposed path forward for achieving the National Packaging Targets. The plan introduces new strategies, including eco-modulated member fees, service procurement, and relationships with existing and emerging product stewardship schemes, aimed at closing economic and infrastructural gaps in the packaging value chain. APCO’s strategy has been developed with consideration for the upcoming regulatory frameworks, including mandated design standards and recycled content requirements.
Next steps, APCO will host a webinar, which we expect will answer questions previously raised by members. APCO will continue to engage with the government and regulators as they look for endorsement of their 2030 Strategic Plan in the coming months. Pending ministerial approval, it is envisaged that elements of the APCO strategy will commence being implemented in 2026/7.
The AFGC has been collaborating with retailers, industry players, and members on our soft plastic project. APCO’s 2030 Strategic Plan will outline its role in a future soft plastic recycling initiative.
