Call for Expressions of Interest – Packaging Technologist Representation on Standards Australia Committee

17 June 2025

Standards Australia is establishing a new national Technical Committee to engage in the development of packaging standards, with direct alignment to international standards through ISO/TC 122 – Packaging. This committee will focus on:

  • Terminology and definitions
  • Packaging characteristics
  • Performance requirements and testing
  • Integration of related packaging technologies

AFGC has been allocated a seat on this committee under the category of User and Purchasing Bodies. This is an opportunity for us to help shape the national and international agenda on packaging standardisation, which is critical to the future of packaging innovation, circularity, and regulatory alignment.

We are calling for expressions of interest from members with expertise in packaging development, specification, or procurement. This is particularly relevant to those working in packaging technology, R&D, quality or sustainability functions.

Key Points:

  • At this stage, we are seeking to confirm interest in taking up the AFGC seat.
  • Meetings: 2–3 per year nationally, with hybrid participation. Additional international working group involvement is optional and may require further engagement.
  • Scope: Expected to mirror ISO/TC 122 – details here: ISO/TC 122 – Packaging

Action Required:

Please confirm your interest in taking the AFGC seat by Monday, 27th June 2025 to Devika Thakkar –  devika.thakkar@afgc.org.au

This is a unique chance to ensure industry needs are reflected in national and global packaging standards. Should you have any questions, please contact Sarah Collier – Director, Sustainability (sarah.collier@afgc.org.au).
