The AFGC and NextGen have developed new training for suppliers to understand the Food and Grocery Code of Conduct. It covers changes to the Code, obligations, legal requirements, and how to use the Code in price negotiations.
What is the Code?
It introduces a regime for fair dealing between suppliers and signatory retailers. It became mandatory for large grocery businesses on 1 April 2025.
What does the training cover?
- NEW! Significant changes to the Code, current penalties for breaches, new inclusions i.e. prohibition of retribution and provisions for fresh produce
- Code obligations, their intent and application i.e. good faith, waste and shrinkage, deductions, promotions, delisting and range review and many other elements of the day-to-day trading relationship
- How to use the Code in your day-to-day engagement with supermarket retailers
- Real-world case studies set against practical insight
At the conclusion of the program, delegates will complete an online assessment, and if successful, will be awarded the AFGC Code of Conduct certificate. This accreditation compliments the typical Competition and Consumer law training suppliers undertake.
Who is the training for?
Successfully integrating the Code across all customer facing business functions will ensure its success within your organisation. Training should be conducted once every two years across the following roles:
- commercial and accounts
- supply chain
- marketing
- category and insights
- legal.
How is the training delivered?
Sessions are delivered in groups – inhouse, virtually or online. Delivered by NextGen.
